An expedition, not a trip

This is one of the most remote and high-altitude regions of Argentina, in the heart of the Puna: a vast plateau in the Central Andes with extreme elevation, an arid climate, wide-open landscapes and very few people.

We target wild rainbow trout in waters that call for a thoughtful approach and moderate technical skills. The bigger challenge is physical. Fishing and moving through this landscape at altitude takes good fitness.

Back at the mobile base camp, the vastness of the Puna becomes part of camp life. After a demanding day it is time to rest, share a warm meal and take in the silence of the high desert.

This program was developed by our team and is guided exclusively by our team.

The fishing

The waters range from small, clear-flowing creeks to wider river sections with varied structure. They ask for careful reading of currents and precise presentations.

Most fishing is done with dry flies and nymphs. Streamers can work when water conditions and temperatures allow. Adaptability and solid fundamentals matter more than specialized technique.

Expect high-mountain rivers, small streams and spring-fed sections, fished with light to medium tackle. Length of stay depends on the scope of the expedition and the experience you want to build.

Flexible by design

A typical day

  • Morning departure from base camp
  • Drive to the selected fishing areas
  • Fishing sessions adapted to conditions
  • Lunch at the truck
  • More fishing through the afternoon
  • Back to base camp, dinner and rest

The area is littered with Inca petroglyphs and relics that archeologists have not studied yet. Side excursions can be arranged to visit them.

Take it slow

Altitude and safety

Altitude affects every angler differently. A steady pace, plenty of water and time to acclimatize make for a comfortable and safe trip. Moving slowly saves oxygen.

Mornings run 30 to 40°F. Afternoons reach 60 to 75°F. Wind is common, the sun is strong and evenings cool off quickly.

Our guides are trained in high-altitude operations and carry oxygen and emergency communication at all times.
